No plans for Thursday night?

Stand-up comedian Tommy Johnigan will pay a visit to Park University tomorrow night, Thursday, April 14, at 7 pm. The event will be held in David Theater in Alumni Hall. Park University students can attend the event for free by presenting a valid Park ID.

Johnigan, a Benton, Ill. native, was the runner up in the NBC series The Last Comic Standing in 2010, and has had a number of other successes, including filming his own Comedy Central Presents half-hour show, and making a debut on David Letterman's The Late Show in 2008, which you can check out in the video I've posted below:

Spring Fling week begins at Park

Today marks the kick off of Spring Fling week at Park University. Spring Fling is an annual festival that features games, entertainment, a dance and other activities. The week-long event was planned by Student Life and student members of the Spring Fling Organizing Committee.

This year's Spring Fling will take place from April 4 to April 9 and bear the theme, 'Las Vegas.' Students are invited to attend sponsored events on campus all week.

Tonight will feature Hypnotist Robert Channing at 7 pm in David Theater, located in Alumni Hall. Channing boasts that he is the "world's foremost mind reader, hypnotist and psychic entertainer." Park juniors and seniors may remember Channing from his visit to Park in 2008, where he wowed students with his mind reading abilities. After placing coins, tape, and blindfolds over his eyes, Channing performed tasks such as correctly predicting the serial number from a dollar bill in an audience member's pocket, as well as correctly guessing details about students in the audience and their most embarrassing moments.

To follow the Las Vegas theme, on Tuesday a Casino Night will be held in Thompson Student Center at 8 pm. Students are invited to attend and participate in a variety of casino style games, such as blackjack, poker, and roulette.

Wednesday night, Park University's Residence Hall Council will host a bonfire outside of Copley Quad at 8 pm. The social event will include supplies to roast marshmallows and make smores as a snack.

On Friday, members of campus clubs will participate in Club Team Races. Pre-registered teams of 5 students from each participating club will compete in events and races all around campus starting at 4 pm. The teams have the chance to win cash prizes to be used for club activities this semester.

The main Spring Fling event will be the Spring Fling Dance on Saturday night. Hosted by the KCI Hilton, the dance will take place in one of the ballrooms and will last from 9 pm to 1 am. Attire is semi-formal.

In celebration of the fact that I was woken up by the sounds of construction this morning, I wanted to share that we are now 12 days in to the estimated 28 days until completion of the Highway 9 construction project.

The project was started on March 21, and until it is finished the Highway 9 bridge is limited to only westbound traffic. Park students can cut through campus to get around the construction, but only if you've gotten one of the lovely yellow Park University hanging tags from public safety.

Any updates from the Missouri Department of Transportation about the progress of this project will be sent to Park students via email. And for the sake of being woken up by construction, let's hope we've only got 16 more days to go!
